Izzie + Jay’s Photoshoot

Izzie + Jay were both really keen on spending some time with me on their big day, away from the guests so we could do a private photoshoot with them. In the end, we were only away for a short while and the end result was a series of images that they were really pleased with and we had great fun doing (just don’t tell the farmer whose field we went into!).

My second shooter here was the very talented Leon Steber.

Izzie + Jay’s Ceremony

We were lucky enough to have great weather for Izzie + Jay’s wedding, which meant guests could enjoy the gardens of Gissing Hall and all through the ceremony light streamed through the windows.

Izzie + Jay’s Photobooth

A lot of people tend to flinch when you point a camera at them. One way we thought of getting round that was to install a “photobooth” at Izzie + Jay’s wedding. We took over the drawing room at Gissing Hall and setup a camera on a tripod with a remote shutter release connected, a couple of pro lights and a chalkboard for people to write messages on. As soon as everyone started to realise they could do their own portraits, a queue formed and the guests had great fun with it!

Izzie + Jay Reception

The wedding reception is always good fun and a great chance for us to get some candid shots of people dancing, laughing and generally having fun. Izzie + Jay’s was no exception.

Buttonholes

Springtime buttonholes were out in abundance amongst the stylish gents at Izzie + Jay’s wedding.

Izzie + Jay Getting Ready

One of the benefits of a second shooter is that one person can head off to photograph the Bride getting ready and the other the Groom. The hotel rooms at Gissing Hall were lovely and had lots of bright natural light flooding in, not too mention Izzie and Jay being a pretty stylish couple. Here are some of the shots we got.

Izzie + Jay’s Wedding Details

Earlier this month, Izzie + Jay hired me to head up to Gissing Hall in Norfolk to photograph their wedding. I grew up in Norfolk, so it was a good chance to take a few days up and catch up with family and friends before and after the big day.

I have to say, this was one of the best planned weddings I’ve ever seen; and the result was a celebration that was beautifully detailed and a day that was a whole load of fun! Leon came along as well, as my second (sorry, co) shooter and we had a blast photographing the day.

A lot of time an effort went into the details, so I thought I’d post some pics of them.

dreamthinkspeak

Not actually a wedding as such, but recently theatre company dreamthinkspeak asked me to come along to Preston Manor and photograph some models (courtesy of BM Models) in some fantastic dresses by students on Brighton University’s fashion course. A couple of them could have passed as wedding dresses, so I thought I’d let you all know about it.

This is one small part of a whole series of shoots I’ve been doing for them recently. Check out my other site sometime soon to see more….

The Value of a Second Shooter

(… or, here’s to Leon!).

I mention in “our services” that I try and bring a second shooter along to the weddings we do and lately I’ve been working with one in particular – Leon Steber. I met Leon a long time ago over a few beers, then a couple of months ago I bumped into him again and he mentioned he was second shooting. I had two weddings coming up and got him along on them. I have to say that the term “second shooter” should not apply to Leon, it really was a case of both of us co-shooting the two weddings we did, and I was over the moon with the results. Here’s some of Leon’s excellent work, you can see more on his website and dotted about on this site.

We provide a second shooter at no extra charge, and it’s absolutely invaluable. As fast a runner as I am, I can’t be everywhere at once! Having Leon there helped out no end at Nicola + Rachel’s and Izzie + Jay’s big days. Hopefully he’ll be around for future ones to!

Rachel and Nicola’s Reception

After the ceremony, we all boarded the big yellow bus and headed over to Saltdean for the seafront reception. The venue had been setup into three sections – a reception tent, where the guests drank champagne and had some nibbles while we did the group photographs (struggling with the wind!); a middle section, where the meals were served, speeches done and general merriment took place; and finally (to the surprise of the guests), a North African themed room, where all the guests retired to do some dancing and have more fun. Nicola’s borthers also ably organised some fireworks on the beach and did a great job because it was extremely windy!

Once the meals and speeches were done, a Salsa band, complete with Salsa dancing teacher, enter the room playing their instrument and grabbing guests up from their chairs to lead them into the North African tent. There followed an impromptu Salsa lesson for everyone! We tried to capture the Latin fiery passion, energetic dancing and warm North African interiors in our shots.
